Public and Private Behavioral Health Services

Public and Private Behavioral Health Services

Private psychiatric hospitals have been in operation way before their public counterparts. Public services developed out of the need to provide services to those individuals who either did not have access to behavioral services or lacked financial resources.

“There is a difference in the mission and philosophy of care between a public and a private facility providing behavioral health services.”
Do you agree or disagree with the above statement? How? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning.

Describe some of the similarities and differences between public and private facilities providing behavioral health services. Support your answer with relevant examples.

Review a Psychiatric Hospital

In today’s healthcare environment, behavioral health services are provided at both specialized psychiatric facilities as well as within a larger and more comprehensive hospital setting. Psychiatric hospitals are dedicated to the treatment of behavioral health disorders, whereas a general hospital provides an integrated model of mental and physical health.

Search the Internet using the key words “division of mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases.” View the list of regional hospitals provided under the heading Regional Hospitals Listing. Choose any one of the psychiatric hospitals listed and review its organizational structure.

Next, search the Internet to find a Web site on a local general services hospital and review its organizational structure.

According to your understanding, are the organizational structures of both types of hospitals similar or different? How? Do you think a similar organizational structure should be followed for all hospitals? Why? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning.

Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Assignment

Rough Draft of Final Paper

In this course, you have looked at classical ethical theories of utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. You have also examined different perspectives on ethical issues introduced by relativism, ethical egoism, and emotivism. For this paper, you will apply these theories and perspectives to a current issue, selected from the list of issues below.

Choose one of the ethical issues from the list to research and write about. It is recommended that you choose a topic you are familiar with or that you have thought about previously, if possible. For example, you might choose an issue that either worries you or enrages you; you might choose one that you have worked on; or you might choose one that relates to recent events in your community.

Possible Issues

Corporate executive compensationCorporate contributions to political campaignsAffirmative actionThe media and its responsibilitiesDomestic surveillanceWhistle blowing in government or in a businessReligion in the workplacePornographyConsumer trackingEthical problems of gamblingProgressive taxation ratesImmigrationWomen’s equalityIn your paper, you will apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the issue that you select. You do not have to use all six, but you should apply at least two ethical theories and at least one ethical perspective in your paper. Make sure that you write primarily on ethical topics and concepts; do not get distracted by doing analyses that apply political, economic, religious, or legal perspectives. Describe, compare, and apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the topics. Explain your analysis of the issue using these theories and perspectives. What are the ethical issues? Where there breaches of ethical behavior? How could each theory help people think about what constitutes virtuous or ethical behavior?
